After warming up against a number of unknowns, the University of Utah basketball team will play at least three top-caliber non-conference opponents in December before beginning conference play the following month.

The Utes, who officially released their schedule this week, open practice Monday in preparation for the 1990-91 season. The Utes' first two games of the season will be exhibition competitions against Athletes in Action on Nov. 7 and the Belgium National Team on Nov. 14. They will play their first regular-season game on Nov. 24 against Cal-Davis.

The Utes' first big test of the season will be a road game against the University of Michigan. Five days later the Utes meet the University of Oregon - a team that beat them last year. Later in the month, they meet Wichita State.

Utah will play one nationally televised game, against BYU in Provo on ESPN.

The Utes will hold their annual Night With the Runnin' Utes on Nov. 1 in the Huntsman Center.

Utah returns two starters from last year's 16-14 team - Josh Grant and Walter Watts - plus three other lettermen in forward Craig Rydalch, guard Jimmy Soto and center Larry Cain.
