The City Council on Tuesday awarded contracts totaling $116,933 for demolition of the old American Fork Junior High School buildings.
The council awarded low-bidder Mackay Kim Inc., Salt Lake City, the demolition project. The company bid $85,420 and contracted to demolish the buildings in 75 days.The city awarded J.D. Larson Co. Inc., West Valley City, the asbestos-removal portion of the project. J.D. Larson bid $31,513 on the job and vowed to finish the removal in 20 days.
The project will begin as soon as permits are received.
Mayor B. Kay Hutchings said the property will be planted with grass. He'd like to see the site used "some day" for a new city swimming pool and recreation center.
