Alton C. Carman, a former captain of the University of Utah football team and active community leader, died July 31, 1988, at his home in Magna. He was 82.
Mr. Carman attended public schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from the U. of U. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and served as captain of the 1927-28 Ute football team, which was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions.An employee of Kennecott Utah Copper from 1936 until Sept. 1970, Mr. Carman retired as general mill foreman. He was also a member of the Beta Theta Phi Fraternity, Elks Lodge #85 and Magna Lions.
Mr. Carman was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Salt Lake City, to Alton Albert and Lila Larsen Carman. He married Margaret B. Nielson on June 24, 1929, in Salt Lake City. She died on Aug. 6, 1982.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., and Friday an hour prior to services. Burial will be in Redwood Memorial Estates.
