Timpview and Cedar City will defend their 1989 titles at the 4A and 3A prep golf state tournaments Wednesday.

The 4A meet is scheduled for Davis Park Golf Course in Fruit Heights, with the shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.The 3A meet will be held at the Eagle Mountain Golf Course in Brigham City, with play beginning at 10 a.m.

The 1A-2A state meet is held in the spring.

Timpview took last year's 4A crown with a team total of 305 points, two strokes better than the 307s posted by Hillcrest and Brighton. Hillcrest's Scott Clark won individualist honors in a sudden-death playoff.

Timpview's title was its third straight prep golf crown, with the T-birds having won the 1987 and 1988 3A championships before moving up to the 4A classification. In fact, Timpview won eight 3A golf titles from 1979 to 1988.

Cedar City and Uintah finished tied for first with identical 307 totals last year, with a tie-breaker formula awarding the 3A team title to Cedar City. The Redmen's own Greg Slack finished with a top score of 73 as the top 3A individualist.
