Two Sandy residents remained hospitalized Tuesday, after being struck by cars in separate accidents.
Michael N. Westley, 15, was in satisfactory condition in LDS hospital, suffering a fractured leg and facial cuts. He was struck Friday as he ran across Highland Drive at approximately 9020 South to get to his bus stop.Police said Matt E. Mangum, 20, was driving southbound on Highland Drive just before 7 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Mangum told police he didn't see the youth, who was wearing black clothing and was crossing in an area between intersections where there are no streetlights, said Sandy police Officer Kevin Thacker.
Bernice Louder, 76, was in critical condition in LDS Hospital after being struck by a car as she walked across 9000 South at 300 East in a school crosswalk Wednesday about 8 p.m.
Police said Louder suffered head injuries and fractures to her leg and pelvis. Police identified the driver as John L. Evans of Riverton.
The victim was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, said Sandy police Officer Kevin Thacker. The driver told police he couldn't see the victim, Thacker said.
