Deliberations resumed Monday in the trial of three Navajos accused of killing Tribal Police Officers Andy Begay and Roy Lee Stanley.

The U.S. District Court trial of Ben Atene Jr., Vinton Bedoni and Thomas Cly began July 18, and closing arguments were made Thursday. Since then, the jury has been in session every day except Sunday. Each man faces two first-degree murder charges, and two charges involving use of a firearm in the commission of the crime.

According to the prosecution, Stanley came upon an illegal beer party near Monument Valley on the reservation the night of Dec. 4-5, 1987, a fight broke out, and Stanley was shot and wounded with his own pistol. Then, the prosecution believes, Begay arrived and was shot too.
