A memorial service will be held for former Gov. Scott M. Matheson at noon Saturday, Oct. 13, in Symphony Hall in downtown Salt Lake City.
Matheson died early Sunday morning in the University of Utah Hospital of multiple myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow that prevents production of blood cells.Malin Foster, a former press secretary to Matheson, said the service will be open to the public. In lieu of flowers, the Matheson family asks that contributions be made to the Scott M. Matheson Leadership Forum, Hinckley Institute of Politics, University of Utah, Room 253, Orson Spencer Hall, Salt Lake City, UT 84112.
"Or those who wish can just give to the charity of their choice in the governor's name," said Foster.
Matheson will lie in state in the Capitol rotunda Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Foster said burial services for the former governor will be private - for the immediate family only - in Parowan, Matheson's home town, at an undisclosed time.
