A new ride and expansion of the indoor tennis courts at Lagoon have been approved by the Farmington Planning Commission.
The new ride is an "observation wheel," similar but larger than a ferris wheel. The wheel is 147 feet high, just under the 150-foot limit for rides and structures set by the city. The wheel will be installed in the park's north end, near the old grandstand, Lagoon officials told the Planning Commission. Planning Commission approval is required for changes in the amusement park's site plan, including installation of new rides.
Neighbors in the adjacent residential area were notified of the proposed addition and none registered any objections.
Commissioners also approved adding two courts to the indoor tennis courts at the park.
The commissioners also convinced the owners to promise to paint over a large "CAMP" sign painted on the existing building's roof, advertising the adjacent Lagoon campground.
