Robert Wright Benton, 75, passed away Monday, October 8, 1990.

He was born March 1, 1915 in Clio, Alabama, a son of Howard C. and Callie Maebell Carroll Benton. He married Katherine Scott, July 18, 1936 in Blue Springs, Alabama. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was reared and educated in Alabama, lived in Salt Lake City, lived in Layton area since 1944.He was branch president of the Sahara Village, Bishop of the Layton Second LDS Ward, High Council of the Layton Stake and held various teaching and leadership positions. He and his wife had served an LDS Mission in South Carolina. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1976. He was an avid bowler for 40 years, also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Surviving are his wife of Syracuse; three sons and two daughters, Patrick C. and wife JoAnn Benton, Joyce and husband Vernon Hill, all of Ogden; Robert S. and wife Janice Benton, Kaysville; Joey T. and wife Sheryl Benton, Layton; Judy and husband Brent Cook, Syracuse; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, H.C. Benton, Abbeville, Alabama; Rachel Grice, Virginia Helms, Melanie Benton, all of Montgomery, Alabama. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Layton Second LDS Ward Chapel, 2120 West Gentile. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thursday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
