A court Tuesday adjourned hearing of two cases against Benazir Bhutto on charges of misconduct during her term as prime minister.

The Special Disqualification Court ordered Bhutto to reappear on Oct. 16 to face corruption charges, which some observers say have been brought in an attempt by President Ghulam Ishaq Khan to have her barred from the forthcoming elections. The president has alleged Bhutto attempted to help a London hotel company obtain prime land in Islamabad at throwaway prices.
