Wendell Layton Cottrell, age 85, died Sunday, October 7, 1990 in Salt Lake City of Complications of Parkinson's disease.

Born December 23, 1904 in Salt Lake City to Charles and Erminnie Layton Cottrell Jr. Married Wynona Kirkham April 2, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Graduated from LDS high school and attended the University of Utah. He served an LDS mission to Australia 1925-27. Operated food stores 1928 to 1951. Served as president of SL Butchers and Grocers Assn in 1938 and director of Utah Grocers Assn 1940-42. Employed as deputy Secretary of State 1953-1964 during which time he was also clerk of Utah Board of Examiners. He was treasurer-manager of the U.M.T.A. Credit Union 1965-74, and was a lobbiest for the Utah Mining Assn.Survived by his wife, Two daughters and one son: Mrs Roland L. (Colleen) Williams; Mrs Richard G. (Marilyn) Taylor and W. Lynn Cottrell and his wife Susan. 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a grandson, Lane Williams; Brothers: Charles and Reed Cottrell; Sisters: Maida Webb and Mickie Gittins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 12 Noon, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple where friends may call Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the services. Interment in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
