A forgetful surgeon left a human leg in a taxicab but later retrieved the missing limb from police, a Japanese newspaper reported. The young orthopedic surgeon told police he was taking the freshly amputated leg, packed in a cardboard box, from one hospital to another Saturday night so it could be used to study the human knee, the Daily Yomiuri newspaper said. The incident, which occurred in Niigata, about 200 miles northwest of Tokyo, resulted in a severe scolding for the surgeon.
