Theater and performing arts auditions have been scheduled for the following dates:
- TUESDAY, OCT. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Utah Theatre, 148 S. Main, for the Christmas classic, "The Other Wise Man." Stuart Mitchell is directing.Roles: Men and women 18 and over are needed, along with some children and teens. All roles are open.
Audition: Auditioners should prepare 30-second monologues and may be asked to do cold readings from the script. Auditioners should be familiar with the story.
Rehearsals begin Oct. 13, with 10 evening performances and four matinees from Nov. 9 through Dec. 31.

- SATURDAY, OCT. 13, 9 a.m. until noon, for "The Curious Savage," at the Pages Lane Theater, 292 E. Pages Lane, Centerville (west of Dick's Thriftway Market). Beverly Olsen, directing.
Roles: Six women and five men, 25-65 years of age. All roles open. The role of Ethel Savage will be double cast. (This role will be played for some performances by Olsen.)
Audition: Auditioners will do cold readings from the script.
"The Curious Savage" plays in January and February.
- SATURDAY, Oct. 13, from 10 until 2 p.m. at 54 E. Main, American Fork, for performers in the "American Ambassadors" troupe.
Actors, singers and dancers are needed for the company's local, national and international tours. Auditioners may bring audio tapes or videos to demonstrate their talent.
Optional workshops and seminars, for which fees may be charged, are available to help performers prepare for the shows. For further information, call 363-5111 in Salt Lake City or 375-7602 in the Utah County area.
- SATURDAY, Nov. 10, in the Salt Palace Little Theater for the "Showbiz National Talent Competition."
Applications are now being accepted and entries for the competition - dance, vocal and novelty in several age and group size categories - are now being accepted.
Cash prizes totaling $800 will be awarded during the regional competition, with the first, second and third-place winners being invited to compete in the national finals in Los Angeles or Dallas. Entry deadline is Oct. 26.
Performers may enter in solo, duet/trio, small group (4-9 members) or large group (10 and more) categories. There are also eight separate age divisions: 6-under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-19 and 20-over.
Cast members selected during the finals in California and Texas will perform throughout the country and in Japan.
David Westfield of Showbiz National Talent, contacted in Dallas, told the Deseret News on Friday that there are entry fees for the competition. Fees are $28 each for solo performers, $17 per person for those in duos or trios, and $10 per person for those in the larger groups.
