Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, for Byron D. Jones, the former chairman of the State Tax Commission and director of the state Motor Vehicle Division. Mr. Jones died Oct. 5, 1990, at the age of 92.

Services will be at 11 a.m. in the Harvard LDS Ward chapel, 1021 S. 200 East. Burial will be in the Park City cemetery.Before going to work for the state, Mr. Jones taught school in Emery and Utah counties and then taught music for 27 years in Park City.

During his years as music teacher, the Park City school band was consistently ranked as one of the best in the state. In 1950, his was the first out-of-state band to perform at the half-time show of the Shriners' East-West All Star football game in San Francisco.

He was honored on his retirement when the school district named its high school music room for him.

Mr. Jones served four years as chairman of the Utah State Tax Commission and eight years as director of the Utah Motor Vehicle Division.

The family asked that memorial donations be made to the Park City High School Music Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
