James A. (Archie) Christensen, age 99, passed away at his home in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
He was born January 13, 1891 to Niels Christian and Christine Wilhelmine Jensen Christensen in Brigham City, Utah Territory. Married Sarah Eliza Fletcher in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 12, 1917. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1986.He attended schools in Brigham City and graduated from Brigham High School in 1911. He fulfilled an LDS mission to Norway (1912-1914). Attended the University of Utah and taught school in Box Elder County. Owned and managed the Arcade Theatre in Salt Lake from 1931 to 1971, retiring at the age of 80.
Active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in ward and stake positions. He enjoyed genealogical reseach and Temple work, and attended his church meetings regularly including the Sunday prior to his death. He was very much loved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as he was a sweet dispositioned, gentle man, and much respected by all who knew and worked with him or for him in whatever capacity.
He is survived by his son, Calvin Eugene Christensen; four daughters, Mrs. O'Dell (Edith) Petersen; Janet Christensen; Mrs. James W. (Beth) Coulon, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. J. Wayne (Merle) Reid, Tremonton, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, James Christian who died in 1925; and by 7 brothers and sisters of whom he was the eldest.
Funeral services Tuesday, October 9th, at 12 noon, Monument Park 1st Ward Chapel, 1005 South 2000 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Monday evening 6-8 pm, and at the Ward on Tuesday, the hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
