The Beach Boys were little help to hurricane-stricken firefighters in Isle of Palms, S.C. The group's recent benefit concert in Charleston fell far short of expectations, netting just $1,500 for the volunteer firefighters after they paid Beach Boys' minimum $75,000 fee. Rockers, however, donated $7,000 to help rebuild Isle of Palms fire station, smashed by last year's Hurricane Hugo.

- SINGER PAUL ANKA and his wife, Anne, have sued their former lawyer, charging he gave bad tax and financial advice. The lawsuit against Albert Rettig claims he cost the Ankas hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes and fines, "threatens to cause the Ankas more than $600,000 additional damages."
