Davis and Roy have all but solidified themselves in the top two spots in the Region 1 prep football standings as both 4A ranked teams triumphed in league games Thursday night.

Regions 1 and 5 got a day's jump in prep football action, with the rest of the state's teams scheduled to play today.Davis edged Clearfield 12-7, giving the second-ranked Darts a perfect 4-0 region record with two games to go - against Viewmont and Weber. Meanwhile, Roy romped over Viewmont 34-2, with the fourth-ranked Royals now carrying a 4-1 league mark.

With their victories and with two more weeks of league play remaining, Davis and Roy are guaranteed no worse than a tie for second place in the final league standings as well as no worse than a tie for region's No. 2 berth - and home-field advantage - in the 4A state playoffs.

Weber, which was to play Olympus in a non-league game Friday, could be the spoiler for both Roy (Wednesday's game) and Davis (the Oct. 18 regular-season finale). Clearfield, Bonneville and Weber all have identical 2-2 marks, but Clearfield and Bonneville have both lost to Davis and Roy already.
