The Orem Junior High Student Council looks over chewing gum the members hope to send to U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia. A brother of Orem High student Camille Chruma wrote his family asking for gum. As one of the soldiers in Saudi Arabia, he said anything from home is appreciated but gum is especially needed because it keep troops' mouths moist. Janniece Leis, student council adviser, felt a gum collection project for the soldiers would be a good service project. Students held a competition between the 7th period classes that lasted a week. Dan Robertson's 7th grade class won the competition with 18,500 pieces of gum. The soldiers will receive 76,000 pieces of gum as soon as there is room on an Air National Guard flight to the Mideast.
