The House vote to defeat a $500 billion deficit-reduction plan read like a road map of the political landscape.

The 254-179 vote early Friday included these Election Day trends:-All eight House members running for the Senate voted against the package.

-The three House members running for governor's seats all voted no.

-Twenty-five House members who, according to analysts, are in the toughest re-election contests all voted no.

By contrast, 44 of the 78 members who are unopposed in their re-election bids supported the budget package.
