Salt Lake firefighters quickly doused a small apartment fire Friday and contained the damage to a single room.

Neighbor Carlton Copp pounded on the apartment manager's door after he noticed "orange-brown smoke" billowing from the third-story apartment at 150 S. 700 East and then called the fire department. "It just wasn't the right color of smoke," he said.Crews responded to the blaze just after 11 a.m. and doused it within minutes, said Salt Lake Fire Chief Dennis Sargent. The apartment appeared to be vacated and no one was injured. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
