Jimmy Connors, who played in just three tournaments this season because of an injured wrist, will undergo surgery next week, his representatives said Friday.

Advantage International said Connors will have his left wrist operated on Oct. 9 after eight months of chronic pain. Doctors have been unable to identify the specific cause of his discomfort.Connors, 38, the winner of the most championship singles titles in history with 109, is hoping to recuperate in time for his 20th season on the professional tour next year.
