Former Utah first lady Lucy Beth Rampton may not be a professional art critic. But Randi Wagner, wife of Utah Attorney General Paul Van Dam, has to be pleased by Rampton's love of her work.
"I just came here tonight to look at her exhibit," Rampton said about a showing of Wagner's paintings in a Washington law office."I bought one. I don't know what came over me, but I bought one," she said. "It's beautiful. I like the way the light flows up toward the stars."
She and her husband, former Gov. Calvin Rampton, bought Wagner's impressionistic-style "Night Harbor," which a price list advertised for $1,500.
Wagner said she purposefully gives vague names to her art so people can allow it to stir their own emotions based on their own experiences. She added she was excited to have a relatively large and enthusiastic turnout to a reception for her paintings Tuesday evening.
Wagner's husband added, "It's nice for me to come to Washington and not be fighting someone on legislation. It's a different experience."
