The USA Basketball Council approved on Tuesday recommendations made last month by its Games Committee that will make the men's 1992 Olympic team one made up of pro and collegiate players and headed by an NBA coach.
The five recommendations which were offered on Sept. 13 were:- that the same team will play in both the Olympic qualifying tournament and the Games.
- that the team will be selected by a committee and coaching staff as opposed to the traditional trials system.
- that the head coach must have at least eight years' experience as assistant or head coach at any level; must have at least three years' experience as NBA head coach; and must have coached two of the last three years in the NBA.
- that the coaching staff will be selected by committee and have one NBA coach and two collegiate representatives.
- that the team will be comprised of both professional and non-professional players.
