It'll be a 10 o'clock tipoff on a midwinter Monday night, but Utah State's basketball team will meet 1990 NCAA champion Nevada-Las Vegas on national television, a highlight of the Aggies' just-released 1990-91 basektball schedule.
The Aggie-Rebel matchup will be part of ESPN-TV's "Big Monday" package and will be played in the Spectrum Jan. 28.Utah State makes two other national television appearances, but they are on premium-pay Sportschannel, inaccessible to most of Utah because it's not on the state's cable systems, though it is available on satellite. Those games will be Jan. 26 at New Mexico State and Feb. 28 at UC-Santa Barbara.
Another bright spot in the Aggie schedule includes a return to San Francisco's Met Life Classic tournament, won by the Aggies in December 1986. The Aggies will play Air Force in that tournament opener on Dec. 21. San Francisco and Vermont are the other teams in the tourney.
Kohn Smith's third year as Aggie coach opens Thurday, Nov. 15, when Utah State hosts Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Game No. 2 on the Aggie schedule is Nov. 19, Belgium-Gent, with Brigham Young University being the Aggies' first collegiate opponent of the season in home-and-home games Nov. 24 at BYU and Dec. 1 in Logan. That's if BYU is done playing in the preseason National Invitation Tournament. The Nov. 24 game could be rescheduled if the Cougars are still involved in the tourney.
The Big West Conference tournament will be March 8-10 at Long Beach.
