Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, has been named to the new Leadership Task Force on Energy by House Minority Leader Robert Michel, R-Ill.
Hansen already has two other leadership positions dealing with energy. He is the ranking Republican on both the House Armed Services Committee's Environmental Restoration Panel and on the House Interior Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment."America needs leadership to guide her on a course of energy independence," Hansen said. "The Republican leadership is filling that need by creating this task force."
He said he plans to promote energy alternatives - including nuclear power - plus conservation to reduce reliance on foreign oil.
"Industrialized nations around the world have been quietly and safely diversifying their energy production to nuclear sources. All we have done in America is kowtow to vocal and uncompromising zealots while trusting in Third World despots and outside factors to meet our energy needs," Hansen added.
