Jury deliberations will continue Monday morning in the case of three Navajo men accused of killing two tribal officers, after the panel failed to reach a verdict late Saturday and retired.

The case went to the jury Thursday after nine days of testimony. Jurors deliberated 2 1/2 hours that day, 11 1/2 hours Friday and continued to sort out the complicated case until after 6 p.m. Saturday.Vinton Bedoni, Thomas Cly and Ben Atene Jr. are accused of killing officers Roy Lee Stanley and Andy Begay the night of Dec. 4-5. Charges were dropped against a fourth defendant.

Prosecutors said that the officers were killed when they tried to break up a drinking party. Defense attorneys, however, said that was not a foundation for murder and accused the prosecution's witnesses of lying.
