A resident anesthesiologist accused of stealing and abusing analgesics has been ordered by state licensing regulators to seek another specialty.

According to an order issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Davis S. Collette was a resident at the University of Utah Medical Center when he administered surgical analgesic Sufentanil to himself.A petition against Collette said he stole the Sufentenil. It also said his actions constituted unprofessional conduct.

Collette has agreed to have his license placed on five years probation, the order said, during which time he cannot practice anesthesiology.
