Two field trips scheduled for successive Saturdays in October will show off Utah's avian finery for beginning bird-watchers.

The Utah Audubon Society plans to sponsor the free trips on Oct. 6 and 13, and anyone interested is invited to attend, said the group's spokeswoman, Maxine Martz.The Oct. 6 trip along the Jordan River will stress basic skills of identifying bird species. Participants will meet at 8 a.m. at the Sugarhouse Garden Center, 1650 E. 2100 South, and car pool to the site.

The Oct. 13 trip will be through Parleys Gulch, focusing on bird-watching and bird migration. The group will meet at 8 a.m. at Tanner Park, 2700 East and 2760 South, adjacent to the gulch.

"Bring binoculars," Martz advised.
