Three West Valley men have been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the beating of a Wyoming man last week.
Salt Lake County deputy sheriffs were called to a fight at a 7-Eleven, 7235 W. 3500 South, Magna, where they discovered an unconscious man in the parking lot. Two men apparently had gone to the convenience store about 3 a.m. Saturday and noticed a group of people in the parking lot."It appeared to them this group was attempting to steal a mountain bike. They got on them about that," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Ben Forbes.
A fight broke out, and one of the two men who had just arrived was knocked unconscious almost immediately. The group was about to leave, but the other man followed and got into another fight in which he received a bloody nose, Forbes said.
The trio apparently had been involved in a similar incident in West Valley City earlier in the evening, deputies said.
The unconscious man, Mark Long, 35, Green River, Wyo., was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital, where he remained Thursday.
Three men, all 18, were later arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted criminal homicide. After detectives met with prosecutors, however, the men were charged with aggravated assault.
