A 19-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon in a one-car accident south of Garrison, raising Montana's highway death toll this year to 162.
The Highway Patrol said the car skidded off I-90, hit an embankment and became airborne before coming to rest on its hood. The victim was traveling with a companion, who was treated at a Missoula hospital for injuries, the patrol said.The names of the victims were withheld until relatives could be notified.
Also on Wednesday, Steven W. Walker, 17, of Ogden, Utah, died in a Butte hospital of injuries from a Tuesday accident that also killed Carrie S. Luke, 18, of Whitehall.
The patrol said Walker was a passenger in a car driven by Luke, which crashed on I-90 about 15 miles west of Butte.
Killed in yet another Butte-area accident Tuesday was John B. Feight, 65, of Whitehall, whose car collided head-on with another vehicle on Montana Highway 69 east of Whitehall, the Highway Patrol said.
The deaths raised the state's highway fatality count to 162, compared to 141 through Sept. 27 of last year.
