Carbon County Recrea-tion will host a tour of 9-Mile Canyon on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The canyon is one of the most significant areas inhabited by the Fremont Indians, who mysteriously disappeared from the area some 800 years ago.Amateur archaeologist Layne Miller, who is writing a book about 9-Mile Canyon, will lead the tour. The day will include visits to rock art and living quarter sites on land administered by the Bureau of Land Management and private property.
Some short hikes will be taken, but the tour will not require strenuous physical exertion.
Cost is $5 per person, $10 per family or $20 per carload. The tour will leave the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum promptly at 8 a.m.
