Wayne E. Cook is the new executive director and secretary of the Upper Colorado River Commission with headquarters in Salt Lake City.

Cook has been chief of the water and land resources division of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation since 1978.He replaces Gerald R. Zimmerman, who served as director for the past seven years. Zimmerman has accepted a new post in California.

Cook has nearly 30 years' experience with water planning and operation and maintenance functions of the Bureau of Reclamation in the Upper Colorado River Basin. He is a graduate of Utah State University with a degree in civil engineering.

The commission is an interstate administrative agency composed of commissioners representing Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and the federal government.
