1913 ~ 2004

George V. Pederson, was born to George Henry and Clara Anderson Pederson on April 17, 1913.

He died at his home in Orem, Utah, Tuesday, February 24, 2004. Although Mr. Pederson holds degrees from Snow College, Utah State University and Brigham Young University, his real Alma Mater is good old SOHK (School of Hard Knocks). There he found the best teacher in the world...NECESSITY. He claims, "The best thing that ever happened to me was to be born poor. When I needed a bicycle, I earned parts from a couple of old ones and made one workable one. When a job of any kind had to be done, there was only one thing to do...learn how, and do it". As a result he became an expert of all trades and any skill needed he could supply it.

He taught Elementary, Jr. High, High School and College. Been a principal and High School Counselor, served in a Bishopric, Temple Ordinance Worker, Sunday School President, Priesthood teacher and a beloved Scoutmaster. Scouting ranked very high on his priority list and he had a keen sense of the responsibilities of his position. He liked his boys, he camped, ate, studied, played and reached with them for the cherished Eagle Badge. He, himself, earned 54 merit badges. He earned the Eagle, the Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms and was awarded the Silver Beaver.

On his birthday in 1935, he married his sweetheart, LaRue Funk, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized June 17, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple. Together they raised five daughters and one son. Mr. Pederson was never without a story, which always fit the situation and made a point. He was a rare blend of dignity and warmth that inspired the admiration and love of everyone he rubbed shoulders with.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Ann and Stan Pope, Jana and Brad Hoover, Larry and Kirsten Pederson, all of Orem; Kathie and Warren Grames, Sandy; 26 grandchildren and 59 great-grand-children as well as his sister, Dorothy Reid, Orem. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaRue and two daughters, Donna and Bonnie.
