A new study indicates that at least one feature of a shoe is important in reducing overuse injuries, reports the Reebok Aerobic Information Bureau.

A team of researchers from Sweden and Denmark discovered that a firm heel counter - the support built in at the heel of the shoe - may increase the amount of shock absorbed by the shoe by as much as 50 percent, relieving undue stress on the leg and foot. Make sure when you purchase your next pair of shoes that the heel is rigid and fits well.
