State licensing authorities have revoked certain prescription privileges of Murray dentist James Lowry Smith, an order said.
Smith was accused of using painkillers to treat himself and an employee in his office for non-dental conditions. An order issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing said Smith didn't keep records of acquiring and dispensing the drugs. The order said Smith became addicted to the painkillers and sought treatment after finding his ability to perform dental work was impaired.
The division revoked Smith's license to prescribe or administer Schedule II drugs, such as Demoral or Percocet. His license to prescribe and administer other controlled substances was placed on three years' probation.
