Stone-Consolidated Inc. says it will increase its standard newsprint prices by $35 per metric ton in January due to "unacceptable profit margins."

The price of its standard 48.8 grams per square meter newsprint will go to $720 per metric ton from $685, the company said.Stone-Consolidated said the increase was needed "to improve unacceptable profit margins" due to heavy cost pressures from recycling demands, energy and exchange, and price discounting.
