The Alpine Recital-Lecture Series will launch its 13th season with a performance Friday, Sept. 28, by the Panoramic Steel Band in the garden and home of Terry and Nancy Brown, 1856 Fort Canyon.
Performing on 14 pans made from steel drums, the six-member ensemble employs a percussive style that originated in Trinidad in the 1930s. "We perform a wide variety of musical styles," says director Ron Brough, ranging from Calypso and other Latin forms to classics and popular melodies.Upcoming events on the series include the Tolstik Family, Nov. 16; the Utah Saxophone Quartet, Jan. 25; pianists Alan Chow and Angela Cheng, March 22; and a lecture by artist Trevor Southey, April 19.
Tickets are $20 for the series or $5 per event. Starting time for Friday's concert is 7:30 p.m. with warm dress - e.g. sweaters - advised.
