The Bureau of Land Management collected $583,929 during a two-day offering of oil and gas leases on public lands in Utah, state director James Parker reported.

The highest bid was almost $50,000 for a 1,880-acre parcel located about 10 miles south of Moab, while the highest per-acre bid was $39 for a 360-acre parcel near Bonanza in eastern Utah.The 331 tracts of BLM lands encompass 451,500 acres. Bids were received during an auction on Sept. 17.

As with other federal oil and gas leases, Utah receives 50 percent of all money collected from rentals, royalties and bonuses on these leases.
