Eastern Arizona College snagged seven interceptions to defeat second-ranked Ricks College 34-21 in Western State Football action Saturday night in Thatcher, Ariz.

The win, coupled with a forfeit victory, puts the Gila Monsters in a tie for first place with Snow College.Also Saturday, Snow College scored late in the game to defeat Arizona Western 48-41 in Yuma, Ariz.

In other WSFL action, ninth-ranked Dixie College beat Scottsdale 34-7 in St. George, and Glendale, Ariz., defeated Mesa 34-7. In a non-league game, the Air Force junior varsity beat Phoenix College 20-12.

Eastern Arizona quarterback Paul Vega completed 10 of 23 passes for 215 yards - including four TD throws - in the win over Ricks. Tight end Jeff Holley gained 95 yards in 21 rushes and caught two passes for 55 yards.

Earlier in the week, the Gila Monsters were awarded a forfeit win due to Dixie College's use of an ineligible player in its 21-3 win at Thatcher Sept. 8.

Snow wide receiver Shane Sudbury scooped up a loose ball on a blocked field goal and threw a 50-yard scoring pass to end Loren Cummings to lift Snow over Arizona Western with two minutes to play. The lead changed four times in the game.
