Brigham Young quarterback Ty Detmer and Wyoming defensive tackle Mitch Donahue have been named the players of the week by the Western Athletic Conference.
Detmer, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, threw for three touchdowns to lead Brigham Young to a 62-34 victory over San Diego State Saturday. He completed 26 of 38 passes for 514 yards, the second-highest passing total he has achieved in a regular season game.Donahue, a senior from Billings, Mont., had 11 tackles and one sack as the Cowboys defeated Air Force, 24-12.
Other offensive players nominated for the honor include Carl Winston of New Mexico, Brian Copeland of Colorado State, Robert Rivers of Wyoming and Jeff Sydner of Hawaii.
Defensive player nominees included Shannon Yates of Air Force, Derwin Gray of Brigham Young, Jimmy Bellamy of Utah, John Bell of New Mexico, Andy Byrne of Colorado State and Terry Whitaker of Hawaii.
