The 1990 Very Special Arts Festival is scheduled Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, at Camp Kostopulos, 2500 Emigration Canyon. State and local dignitaries will speak at the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sept. 27. Service and writing awards will also be presented at that time.

Workshops in dance, mime, photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, wind chimes, face painting, cartooning and drill team have been planned. Workshop times are 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday and 9:30, 10 and 11 a.m. on Friday. Performances of dance and mime will be held during the lunch hour.A statewide visual art exhibit will also be displayed featuring works by both disabled and non-disabled participants.

The festival offers opportunities for handicapped persons to express themselves through the arts, thus building self-esteem, communication and socialization skills.
