The American Institute of Chemical Engineers has named John Swanson, a University of Utah graduate in chemical engineering, winner of its 1990 A. McLaren White Award in a national design competition for undergraduate college students.
Swanson, who graduated in June with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, competed against students from many of the 150 schools eligible to submit entries. Swanson currently is employed by Exxon Oil in Benicia, Calif. He is a native of Salt Lake City and a graduate of Highland High School.R.E. Emmert, executive director of AIChE, says the award recognizes Swanson's outstanding contributions in the field. It carries a certificate, cash prize and individual recognition at the group's annual national meeting.
