President Bush is planning to visit U.S. soldiers in the Persian Gulf at Thanksgiving, about the same time he intends to go to Europe and Latin America, New York's Newsday reported Friday.

In Washington, White House officials said they could not confirm the report and that no travel plans have been set.Newsday said tentative plans called for Bush to visit troops in Saudi Arabia and possibly stop in Egypt and Turkey.

Thanksgiving was seen by White House advisers as a better time than Christmas for Bush's visit because it is a secular American holiday and less likely to upset Saudi Arabia's conservative Moslem leadership, Newsday said.
