A kick-off ceremony to help raise money for a new homeless shelter for St. Anne's Center is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

Chuck Rostkowski, director of the center, said he needs to raise $1.8 million to build a new facility that will provide room for homeless single men, single women and families. He has raised about $600,000 so far."We're raising money to build a brand new shelter," he said.

Currently, St. Anne's Center is housed in an old Catholic school building. Plans for the new shelter call for a 50,000-square-foot, three-story structure.

The ceremony will start at the center, 2763 Lincoln Ave., and then move across the street to the Marshall White Center.
