Through all the gloom of the annual duck hunting forecasts over the years, the one bright spot in waterfowl hunting has always been goose hunting. It has, over the past decade, been steadily improving.
This year is no different. Goose hunting is going to be good. The hunt will open Oct. 6 at noon, along with the duck hunt. For the third year, however, it will run longer than the duck hunt. Goose hunters will be able to stay out until Jan. 6.
According to Tom Aldrich, waterfowl program coordinator for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, the number of geese in the southern areas is down slightly, but up in the northern areas . . . "for an overall increase."
The limit on geese remains at five, but no more than two of the five can be Canadian geese.
