Ty Detmer threw for 448 yards and five touchdowns in Brigham Young's 50-36 come-from-behind victory over Washington State on Saturday, then lost ground in the Scripps Howard News Heisman Trophy poll.

Go figure.Detmer, named first by all but one voter in this week's poll, got 44 points to the 26 by runner-up Shawn Moore of Virginia and 23 by Todd Marinovich of Southern Cal. Last week Detmer led Moore, 45-18. One voter abstained both weeks. Moore completed 13 of 22 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns to lead Virginia past Navy, 56-10, while Marinovich threw for 240 yards and a touchdown, hitting on 22 of 34 passes in USC's 19-14 victory over Penn State.

Miami's Craig Erickson had a strong performance against California, throwing for four touchdowns and 467 yards while completing 32 of 47 passes.
