An attorney nominated by the Republican Party to run for the state House of Representatives was appointed to that seat Friday by the governor.

Ronald J. Ockey, 54, will replace Rep. Frank Johnson, R-Salt Lake, in District 33. Johnson, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, resigned his seat earlier this month after moving from his district.Ockey defeated three other Republican candidates for his party's nomination earlier this year and faces Democrat Tom Kearin in the November election.

Because of the appointment, Ockey now runs as an incumbent, although his only experience will be in interim meetings and any special legislative sessions called between now and the election.

Ockey is an attorney with the law firm of Jones, Waldo, Holbrook and McDonough.
