Jurors were set to begin their third day of deliberations Saturday morning in the Navajo murders trial, after they were sent home at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Thomas Cly, Vinton Bedoni and Ben Atene Jr. are awaiting the jury's decision on their first-degree murder and firearms charges. The three are accused in the deaths of Navajo Tribal Police Officers Andy Begay and Roy Lee Stanley.Prosecutors say the officers were shot, then burned to death in one of their police vans the night of Dec. 4-5, 1987, on the Utah side of the sprawling Navajo Reservation.
Friday evening, defense lawyers and prosecutors were called into U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Greene's chambers for a conference. While they were meeting, jurors sent two notes in to the judge.
About 8:30 p.m. lawyers, judge and jury returned to the courtroom.
