A Sandy man charged with attacking a Salt Lake woman in her home July 5 pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
Jeffrey Dean Baker, 28, entered the plea before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson, who scheduled a trial for Sept. 7.Baker is accused of breaking into a woman's home near Sixth East and Downington Ave.
The woman, 42, told police she was awakened about 6 a.m. to find a man crouching by her bed.
Wearing a mask and armed with a butcher knife, the man began slashing at the woman, severing a tendon in her right hand. She fought back, and the intruder fled, throwing the knife at her.
