A Box Elder County woman was killed in a pickup truck-camper rollover near Hillsdale, Garfield County, and a California girl died of injuries following a traffic accident Thursday near Hanksville, Wayne County.
DEAD:Loraine Shinkle, 63, Brigham City.
Charity Thompson, 15, Woodland Hills, Calif.
Shinkle was a passenger in the pickup driven by Edna C. Baugh, 57, Wellsville, Cache County. She apparently fell asleep, and the vehicle overturned on U.S. 89 north of Hillsdale.
Baugh, a sister of Shinkle, was to be released Friday from Garfield Memorial Hospital, a nurse at the hospital said.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Craig Twitchell investigated the accident, which occurred about 10:30 a.m.
The Thompson girl died of injuries received about 7 a.m. Thursday when a passenger van driven by her mother, Mrs. Donald Thompson, overturned on U-24 about one mile west of Hanksville, Wayne County.
Mrs. Thompson was not hurt, but her husband and several other children, Jon, 18; Brittany, 12; Brownyn, 7; Kirstin, 20; and Charity's girlfriend, Jennifer Spediacci, 15, also of Woodland Hills, were taken to the clinic and then transferred to Castleview Hospital, Price, where all had been released as of Friday morning.
Charity Thompson was thrown out of the van when it overturned. The Wayne County Ambulance and four emergency medical technicians were dispatched to the scene of the accident, which was investigated by Wayne County Sheriff Kerry Ekker.
